Sheffield Branch of British Cactus and Succulent Society
The objectives of the British Cactus and Succulent Society (BCSS) are to promote the study, conservation, propagation and cultivation of cacti and other succulents. Membership includes the whole range from novice window-sill growers to experts and is open to all.
The Sheffield Branch of the BCSS has been in existence since 1946. We currently meet on the second Friday of each month at our new venue of Shirley House, Psalter Lane. See our events page for further details of our programme and our contact us page for more information on how to find us. Our meetings are free to attend for all comers.
Members are encouraged to bring along plants of interest and plants in flower for the table show or for discussion. Members and speakers are also invited to bring along sales plants with all money going to the grower.
Accessibility: The venue has excellent accessibility. It is wheelchair friendly with no steps. The meeting room is on the ground floor and has ample space.
Facilities: Toilet facilities are on the ground floor, including disabled access. There is a well-equipped kitchen and tea, coffee, biscuits and home-made cakes are provided for 50p during a break in the evening’s programme. A raffle takes place at every meeting and there are usually plants for sale or available for free.
Directions: Shirley House is set back from Psalter Lane, which runs perpendicular to Ecclesall Road in the south-west of the city. It is approximately 1 mile from Sheffield Botanical Gardens, with the 218 bus stopping directly outside the venue.
Parking: The venue has ample free parking, including disabled bays. If required, Psalter Lane itself also has free parking. Websitesheffield.bcss.org.uk
