Description | Cider (fermented from apples) and perry (from pears) are amongst the oldest drinks produced in the UK. As world leader, Britain is the foremost cyder making country in the world and has a marvellous tradition and heritage associated with the products. (Cider is the term for the first pressing with nothing added; cider is made by adding up to ten times water to the volume of apple pomage.) This one-day course is suitable for beginners, for those interested in making cider or perry at home and for anyone with an interest in these unique, versatile and tasty products. Course content: History, heritage and traditions of cider making Types and use of apples Choice and care of equipment Milling and pressing of apples Fermentation & Maturation Blending & bottling During the day, you will: process a mix of apples [Crabb, Cookers, Eaters etc] that are not too old, in order to produce juice. They can be mishapen, that is not a problem. Ideally, you should have a 'demi jon' in which to hold the juice [though if you do not posses one, they can be supplied - but let us know in advance if you wish to purchase one!] If you bring your own apples [tart ones are good, Mishapen are good, Littles ones are good !] you need approx 2 carries bags full. If you provide your own apples, the price of the course is £30, if you need apples to be provided, then the course price is £40. Refundable up to two weeks prior to course (minus £10 admin fee) No refunds for cancellations within two weeks of course This course is now fully booked! |
