Description | Day 1. [01/10/2011] We will look at wood selection. You will learn how to select the appropriate wood for each application. We’ll split/cleave the wood, looking at how to control the split accurately. We’ll use a side axe to rough shape the billets ready for shaping using a drawknife sitting on the shaving horse. Once we’ve prepared the billets we’ll use a pole lathe to turn three legs. Once completed they will be left to dry out ready for the second day of the course. Day 2 [08/10/2011] With the legs now dry we can use the pole lathe or rounding plane to produce the right sized tenons. We’ll use a variety of hand tools to plane the stool top, shape the sides with a spoke shave, and drill the mortices with a bit and brace. Once everything fits we’ll glue the stool together and level up. If there’s time we’ll turn some small items on the pole lathe when we’ve finished the stool Cost: £120 - Refundable up to two weeks prior to course (minus £30 admin fee) No refunds for cancellations within two weeks of course |
