Date Thursday 19th May 2011
Time 10:00 until 16:00
Meet At Forge Dam Cafe
Organised By Grow Sheffield
Description Join us for a day of foraging, tasting and experiencing local medicinal plants. The day has a very informal structure. We plan on walking around the area surrounding the Cafe, which is blessed with hundreds of local medicinal plants. We will learn how to identify the plants, pick the plants and how to use the plants for both food and medicine. Bring with you - Carrier bags for taking things home, a packed lunch, something to drink, suitable waterproofs and footwear for wet weather. also recommended - a camera for photographing the plants. WHY HERBS? - herbal treatments can work allot more effectively that there counterpart pharmaceuticals for many common and less common illnesses. - local wild herbs are free to find all over the place, and on the whole, very abundant. - they work hand in hand with a holistic approach to health, seeing the body not as separate parts but as a fully funtioning whole which ultimately is intrinsically linked to its surrounding enviroment and planet. - easy to self prescribe and use - they are sustainable; they are easy to propagate, grow, find and forage. They benefit many other forms of life other than humans - insects, birds, grazing animals... they promote a diverse use of our enviroment
