| Description | The Friends of Hillsborough Park are currently looking for more volunteers who are interested in helping maintain the Walled Garden in Hillsborough Park. The walled garden dates back to 1779. Food was grown there for many years for the various owners of Hillsborough Hall. There are lots of jobs to do including - Clearing “tired” beds and replanting; General garden maintenance - lifting and splitting plants, pruning, weeding and cutting back; Tidying paths, sweeping up leaves and clearing gutters. For anyone that fancies DIY - rather than gardening – there are benches to varnish; crumbling brickwork to replace and wooden structures to repair. We create our own leaf-mould and have 6 compost bins to maintain. We have the use of a greenhouse where we propagate and grow-on plants either for use in the garden or for re-sale.
