Description |
Sheffield City Centre Geology walk.
The city centre has a surprising variety of rocks of different types in its buildings and paved surfaces and street furniture. They span a wide range of ages and while some of them are from the local area, others originate from distant countries. Why were they chosen and how suitable are they for the purpose they now fulfill? We will also discuss how they were formed and what they can tell us about earth history.
All the walk is all on paved surfaces and out of doors clothing and suitable footwear should be worn. There is no need to book and the tour is free of charge. Nowhere on the route that would preclude the use of a wheel chair, although pushing by hand would be hard work and although not targeted at children families with children would be welcome to attend. A self guided guide leaflet for part of the walk is available for purchase (£1), and copies may be downloaded gratis from https://www.sagt.org.uk/sheffield-walks
