On the second Tuesday of every month Heeley City Farm's Dementia Department hold a Carers Group for people caring for someone with Frontotemporal Dementia (formerly Pick's Disease). This is a confidential but informal space where people living in the dementia world can vent, chat to others about what they are going through and, in-turn, help people who might have queries of their own. The group is growing by the month with new faces each time. This is a great space to learn about FTD from the people who are living it in every day life. The people who know. The group is run by the Dementia Manager, Lee Pearse, with the help of his brother, Andrew Pearse, who both cared for their mother, Valerie, who had FTD for over 12 years. Lee and Andrew know how speaking to people who know what you are talking about can bring a sense of relief that you are not the only ones going through it and that is what they hope people get from the group, a social element that carers often miss whilst caring for someone whilst getting support from their peers.
