Find out how the candidates for South Yorkshire Mayor intend to address the climate and nature emergencies.
The need to address the climate and nature emergencies has never been more urgent. The Mayor elected on 5th May will be responsible for ensuring that South Yorkshire plays its part in addressing the rapidly evolving threats we are facing. As well as responsibility for delivering Net Zero Carbon, for the first time the Mayor will have specific responsibilities to deliver a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for South Yorkshire.
These online hustings will give you the opportunity to find out what actions the candidates would take, if elected, to reach Net Zero and deliver Nature Recovery.
Candidates from all the main parliamentary parties have been invited and the following have confirmed their attendance:
Oliver Coppard (Labour Party)
Joe Otten (Liberal Democrats)
Bex Whyman (Green Party)
The event will be hosted and chaired by representatives of the South Yorkshire Climate Alliance and the Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust.
Audience participants will be invited to submit questions in advance on policy issues within the remit of the Mayor. The key areas are: economy and growth, nature recovery, training and skills, infrastructure, and public transport. Questions may be combined to enable us to ask questions on different topics effectively.
